✨ What’s EffectBlocks?

EffectBlocks is a growing pack of stylized 3D VFX, shaders, and particle systems for Godot 4+. It’s built for developers who want to quickly drop in optimized, low-poly effects and tweak them for their own style.

Since launch, the pack has grown to 60+ real-time effects: fire, smoke, impacts, portals, decals, shaders, weather, and more. Everything is organized into folders and customizable in color, timing, and scale.

This update focuses on naming consistency, new effects, and improved editor support.

πŸ†• New Effects

  • Explosion Variations β†’ more stylized options for combat scenes

  • Heat Waves β†’ distortion-based atmospheric shader

  • Space Debris β†’ drifting particles for sci-fi environments

  • Wormhole & Warp Drive β†’ tunnel effect for hyperspace-style travel

  • Black Hole β†’ experimental shader-based VFX

βš™οΈ Improvements

  • Naming Conventions Overhaul

    • Example: explosion_big.gd β†’ explosion_heavy.gd

    • Cleaner, consistent naming across scripts & scenes

    • ⚠️ If you’re updating from an older version, double-check re-linked scripts/shaders.

  • Editor Support

    • Some effects now use @tool, meaning you can preview & tweak directly in the Godot editor. (Highly requested by the community!)

  • Vegetation Shader & Water system update

    • Vegetation shader now supports ambient light, giving grass and foliage more natural integration in different environments.

    • Water system now included a layer based approach to ripples/ foam and refraction

❌ Removed

  • Plasma Shader

    • Removed due to copyright concerns. It was originally adapted from an existing shader on Godot Shaders (Plasma Waves).

  • Updated naming convention across files

  • Editor previews added with @tool support

  • Vegetation shader improved with ambient light

  • Plasma shader removed due to copyright

EffectBlocks started as a small side pack and has grown thanks to community feedback. V3 is the most polished version yet, with cleaner structure and editor features that should make your workflow smoother.
